Low Overhead:  Hour for hour, it is much less expensive to hire me as your consultant—no such thing as idle time, vacation time, sick time or anything like that.  You also save on employer tax, compensation packages, health insurance, liability insurance, and the like.  I take care of all of that since I work for myself—on your behalf.  In most situations, you don't need to provide a work space and you definitely don't need to provide transportation or a lunch room.

Flexible Hours: As a consultant, I am not bound by agreements on hours of work, or overtime and holiday pay, or breaks.  I work when you need me to work even if it means putting in more than eight hours a day—all with no overtime or time off.  Within reason, I can bend my schedule to fit your deadlines and your not paying for those inevitable delays while decisions are made, resources are put into place or key people are not available.  I will travel almost anywhere or, when possible, attempt to provide consulting services via multi-media through the internet.

Lower Computing Software and Hardware Costs: Normally, I use my own equipment to process high-end computing tasks.  Therefore, you would be able to minimize, or even eliminate, your costs on GIS, CAD, or programming software.  One of my specialties is finding low cost or even free software that will provide you the functionality that you need.  Hiring me to assess your computing needs makes sense especially if you are working with a limited computing budget—and who isn't—or have difficulty justifying large costs for once a year, or even one time, computing needs.
